Technology doesn’t always pan out as it was meant to be…

Every few chapters that I write on how technology changes the future for the good, I will have volumes of a chapter dedicated to the previous chapters on how the technology can go wrong and become two-faced in alternate realities. This volume will be devoted to the innovations of the future; Virtual Reality and Bio-Serums with special abilities such as making the user compliant to giving up the truth. A fantasy idea that I was inspired by an awesome book series ‘Divergent’ by Veronica Roth.)
Simulation Sorrow
After the rising success of the truth serums and the serum involved in the aptitude tests, the most efficient way to determine one's place in society, some people took the science of these serums which was supposed to be kept safe-guarded so that someone couldn't be able to recreate the whole formula structure, failed, to the next sick level. Once the liquid compound is administered into the victim's body, it induces the illusions of what the victim fears in their mind. Obviously, when we think or are near something we feel insecure around, our heart rate goes through the roof, elevating more and more. If the victims were able to escape the serum’s wrath, then they would leave the facility as someone who is damaged and broken. To say if that is lucky is controversial as they have to live with the experience for their whole lives, many suffered drug overdoes if they are exposed to this for a long time.
Metaverse Madness
In a world where Virtual Reality is as simple as wearing contact lenses to log in to their previous virtual adventure where they can create any fantasy in this malleable reality and even connect to other users and become a totally different persona. They could even theoretically do something and V.R. and be induced with the same feeling in the real world. With lots to do comes a ton of dangers if the responsibilities of the virtual-reality creators go dark/rogue and the addictive temptations of the users.
Fail-Safe Fail
To be safe in wherever they imagine their virtual quest takes place, there is an emergency fail-safe that they “click” or “speak.” This enchantment allows them to log out of their experience if their regular “exit” enchantment doesn't work and this emergency gets reported to coders above. However, if the fail-safe FAILS then the user cannot connect to their earthly bodyparts and they would be stuck in V.R. forever. The human body cannot survive a long time without consumption of earthly treats and eventually, death.
Adventure Addiction
With many people traveling to V.R. to escape and cope with human emotions such as fear, sadness, and even loss, some of the weaker people of the pack become addicted to this realm. They’d rather be their other-worldly persona than be their human self where they only think they will find nothing but a trash life. The present symptoms are highly similar to drug addiction as they cannot survive without staying in V.R. The weaker-willed consumers in virtual reality slowly losing their grip on actual reality and believing it to be real rather than a creative world in Minecraft and later succumb to the trap of mania.
In the end, the diagnosis is depression and madness.
TruthSerum
When the ancient polygraph tests didn’t cut it for experienced criminals, the ‘truth serum’ scenario was designed so the people who evade the truth for their own criminal hustles are prevented as the user is suggestible to confessing from their crimes to their deep-down secrets. However, life wouldn’t be life if there were never any troubles otherwise it would be an easy game to win. In the hands of the right people such as from cops to the military, the bottom line is that it will be used to save lives. However, in the dirty hands of criminals, these different kinds of sedative, hypnotic, and psychedelic drugs can be used to conduct illegal interrogations to do the reverse of the righteous’ goals’. The TruthSerum became more advanced as they connect the ‘Mental Constructs’ program where the scenario playing the user’s head would be projected for the audience, removing the 3% of the user lying under the serum.
Futuristic Aptitude Test
Set in the future society, teenagers are given a kind of futuristic aptitude test to successfully determine their place in the world by corresponding their personality trait or virtue with the positions needed in the world. With this method, the world will know and the teenager themselves will learn their own future place. Almost like a personnel awakening. Instead of the “barbaric” pencils and paper, the ‘subjects’ are given a serum that triggers unconscious dream scenarios, which are then monitored via electrodes and shown onscreen.
Sadly, in life, the yin-yang analogy is able to be used for good-evil; the World runs on both. The subjects’ can be injected with mind-altering drugs to achieve particular effects. Because of this, the serum’s dream scenarios can be highjacked and somehow scripted by the administrators. The serums can either. be used to make subjects passive and/or highly suggestible, or even controllable by broadcast transmissions.
Therapy Serums
Based on the serums used in Aptitude Test, the patients are injected with mind-altering drugs to achieve particular effects. The serum’s goal is to help and makes the subjects passive or help them get over something. Once again this serum’s dreamscape can be hijacked thru the electrical connection from the electrodes and can make the subject highly suggestible to their “controller”, or controllable by broadcast transmissions.

The ‘truth serum’ scenario was designed so the people who evade the truth for their own criminal hustles are prevented as the user is suggestible to confessing from their crimes to their deep-down secrets. However, life wouldn’t be life if there were never any troubles otherwise it would be an easy game to win. In the hands of the right people such as from cops to the military, the bottom line is that it will be used to save lives. Now, all the confessions of the user would be added or deducted from the Karma Points balance. Now, this whole drama begged the question, is this an invasion of one’s privacy?
